Her extraordinary talent served Leopold Mozart as proof of the family’s superior genes, while Maria Anna herself had to learn that in the 18th-century music world, there was no place for a woman to have a career of her own.

The Forced Silence (1769–1784)

While Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart conquered the world, she was forced into a domestic life by the laws of her time. She was only permitted to exercise her extraordinary talent in private. It is the story of a woman whose musical spirit was as great as that of her brother, but who was silenced solely because of her gender.
Later Life (1784–1829)

- Returns to Salzburg after her husband’s death.
- Collects and preserves her brother’s letters and sheet music.

Even though she was not permitted to pursue the global career her talent deserved, she remained deeply connected to music until her very last breath.
